The group's history

A group that originated in 1845: over one hundred and fifty years ago!
1845 : Mr Carabin founded the Carabin company.

On January 1st 1973 M. Pierre Tamagnaud created “la Société des Etablissements Tamagnaud, Setam SA” whose major activities were mechanics subcontracting and machining of assemblies and sub-assemblies intended for the civil and military aeronautics industries.  In 1975, Setam established its position in the armament and robotics markets with the filing of a patent  related to high precision gear boxes. Although this patent is now in the public domain, client loyalty in these markets was developed and maintained.

In 1985, Pierre’s brother, Guy Tamagnaud acquired SIMOP Sarl, a company involved in the optics and precision mechanics industry located in Paris, Porte des Lilas.

Steady growth

In 1987, Pierre Tamagnaud took over Carabin, a company located in Noisel (77) France, specialized in gear cutting and grinding. Setam production had become so dependant upon being supplied with high quality gears, that Pierre Tamagnaud decided to buy out his supplier. Since 1845, Carabin had been a company that was able to develop and stay abreast of all technological innovations. When Pierre Tamagnaud took over the company, 40% of its revenue was coming from Setam.

As the three companies were geographical dispersed, and in order to rationalize their growth,  in 1991, Setam, Carabin, and Simop were physically moved and regrouped in their current site, built for this purpose in Tremblay, France.

In 2001, Pierre Tamagnaud acquired the Poulet company, specialized in high precision micromechanics. The company’s six employees were integrated into Setam.

On January 1st, 2002, Setam and Carabin were consolidated into a single entity, SAS Setam Carabin, which then counted 35 employees and 6M€ in revenues.

Simop had 14 employees in 2005.

Exponential development since 2007

Pierre Tamagnaud retired in 2007, and Setam Carabin was bought by Jean-Marc Sassier. The Valindus holding company was created: Jean-Marc Sassier, the majority owner (65%), Vauban Partenaires, a financial partner (32%), and two other shareholding partners (3%), also brought their expertise to the company .

At the end of 2007, Valindus acquired Simop from Guy Tamagnaud. In 2009, Simop acquired Rectimax, a company specialized in grinding.

Since 1971 and through the impetus of Daniel Mayot, Rectimax has been developing a know-how in the sector of high precision grinding. Rectimax is an essential partner in the grinding machining sector, and has become a solid partner of SETAM CARABIN. Rectimax integrated the Valindus group in January 2009.
